All pet cats in England must be microchipped by 10th June 2024 following new laws. This means that pet cats must be microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks, including indoor cats. As part of the new rules, you must keep your contact details up to date on a Defra-approved microchipping database. Failure to do so can incur fines of up to ยฃ500, so book an appointment and get your cat chipped if you haven’t already!
Cat Microchipping
If your cat enjoys roaming the outdoors, cat microchipping is a simple yet powerful tool to ensure the safety of your beloved feline. In an unpredictable world, there is peace of mind in knowing that your cat has an added layer of protection. This straightforward procedure provides peace of mind, knowing that should they ever stray or become lost, the chances of a happy reunion are greatly increased.
Why is Cat Microchipping Essential?
Cat Microchipping is an essential part of pet care that goes beyond regular check-ups and vaccinations. It’s the most reliable method to ensure your cat’s safe return if they get lost.
Unlike collars, which can break or be removed, a microchip is a permanent form of identification. Tiny as a grain of rice, this chip is inserted under your cat’s skin and carries a unique number that’s registered to a national database with your contact details.
How does Cat Microchipping Work?
The process of cat microchipping is quick, safe, and no more painful than a standard vaccination. Our skilled veterinarians ensure the procedure is stress-free for your pet. Once implanted, the microchip doesn’t require any maintenance, and the peace of mind it offers is invaluable.
Should your cat wander off, any vet or animal charity can scan the chip, retrieve your contact details from the national database, and reunite you with your cat.
The Right Time for Microchipping Your Cat
While cats can be microchipped at any age we often recommend doing so at the time of their second vaccination which conveniently coincides with their second vaccination.
However, it’s never too late to provide your pet with this layer of safety. Whether you’re bringing a new kitten into your home or you’ve welcomed an adult cat, cat microchipping is a step you shouldn’t skip.

I was absolutely terrified for how she would be after the surgery. But thanks to the incredible surgeons her recovery was a breeze! Firstly she had standard spay but the cut was absolutely tiny even smaller than key hole ones I've seen. They shaved a minimal amount, so her fur grew back quickly. The cut was sewn up so neatly it healed very well. She has had no bladder issues which shows what a careful professional job they did. And they cared for her so well that she is not scared to go back at all. She was very excited actually for her post op check up! They always have someone to answer the phone and we're beyond supportive when I voiced my worries prior. I can't thank them enough for treating my girl like their own ๐ฅฐ๐พTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Beth AllenOnly recently moved to Rackheath vets and we had our first proper appointment today with Chris who was lovely and understanding of my anxious basset hound! 10/10 and will recommend to all family and friends.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Karen StoneWelcoming with expert advice at reasonable prices. We got a same day appointment for our dog who was end of life. From calling, to arriving and being seen, each and every staff members we interacted with were so compassionate during an emotional time.
